Burma was deemed insufficient against Cambodia in the AFF U-22 second group match, but all is not lost for the match against Malaysia.
Myanmar succumbed to a 2-0 defeat at the hands of the host country, Cambodia, and the score could have been worse if goalkeeper and captain Phone Thitsar Min had not missed a penalty in the first half.
Despite his exploits, he could not keep Cambodia away for the remainder of the match and they ended up scoring one in each half to ensure progression in the semi-finals alongside Vietnam and the United States. Thailand of group A.
The fourth and last place, however, remains open and Myanmar coach Soe Myat Min has stressed that their collective home should be Malaysia's next match.
"We have a decisive match against Malaysia coming. And we must be well prepared, "he said.
Malaysia and Myanmar each have one point each, while Indonesia has 2 points after 2 draws in 2 games. If Myanmar won against Malaysia and Cambodia beat or equalized with Indonesia, Myanmar would qualify for the semi-finals of the tournament as the fourth team.
However, if Indonesia were to defeat Cambodia, the result of the match Myanmar – Malaysia would be inconsequential.
