As a network provider, Cisco expects an increase in annual mobile data traffic by 2022 to just under ZByte. From here, about 71% of people will have one or more mobile devices.
By 2022, about 12 billion mobile devices and IoT connections will generate traffic of a little less than one zby per year. Cisco predicts this with its VNI (Mobile Visual Networking Indes). This is primarily due to the constant improvement of the scope and quality of the networks.
Over the next three years, mobile traffic will account for about 20 percent of global IP traffic, Cisco said. In addition, about 5.7 billion people (71% of the world's population) will have more than eight billion mobile devices by that time. The expansion of 5G network technology makes a major contribution to this development. This means that the average transmission speed will increase from 8.7 Mbps (2017) to 28.5 Mbps by 2022.
Coexistence of several network technologies
Nevertheless, local wireless technologies such as WLAN will continue to coexist. Cisco even estimates that about 59% of all mobile traffic will be on WLAN by 2022. This represents about 51% of global IP data traffic.
This considerable increase in data volume is also due to the increasing digitization. More and more devices are generating digitally recoverable data.
