JEAN MENSAH1 Chairman of the Electoral Commission, Jean Mensa

Members of the minority in Parliament said they would be forced to vote against the President of the Electoral Commission, Jean Mensa, to protest his incompetence.

Haruna Iddrisu, leader of the minority, commented on Wednesday on the implementation of the Law on the Amendment of the Law on the Representation of the People (ROPAA), while underlining a number of concerns, according to which the EC does not must not engage the country's elections.

He called for the proper maintenance of the Commission's data system.

"The Electoral Commission and the commissioner must be up to the task, otherwise we will ask her head … we will express a vote of no confidence in her, that's what I mean," he said in the House.

He reminded the Commission of a constitutional provision giving all Ghanaians, at 18, a healthy mind, the right to vote in elections and questioned the ability of the EC to implement the ROPAA.

The minority leader also wanted to know if the EC was pursuing the ROPAA, whether Ghanaians from abroad would be allowed to vote for presidential and parliamentary candidates.

He also emphasized that if the ROPAA was implemented, it had to be done everywhere.

"I no longer trust the Electoral Commission," said Haruna Iddrisu, noting that as a member of the special budget committee for 2018, he was shocked. EC stated that it had funding problems because of the budget allocation allocated to it.

He also questioned the EC's ability to organize district badembly elections.

Majority leader Osei-Kyei-Mensah Bonsu also expressed concern over the EC's preparations for holding district badembly elections in September this year.
