Zoomlion Ghana Limited, a waste management company, has taken up its sanitation tasks with the launch of 10 mechanical sweepers.
Vehicles are equipped with cylindrical (coiled) bristles used to collect sand, light wastes and other wastes from streets, sidewalks and other hard surfaces.
They also have water and garbage storage compartments and tubes that connect garbage tanks to cylindrical bristles.

The vehicles, which were inaugurated in Accra yesterday, will be distributed in 10 regions of the country, in partnership with the Ministry of Water and Sanitation.

The executive chairman of the Jospong group of companies, Zoomlion's parent company, Mr. Joseph Siaw Agyepong, explained that the acquisition of the mechanical sweepers was a response to the call of the chairman, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo , on members of the Environment Service Providers Association (ESPA) to find innovative ways to address the growing challenges in sanitation in the country.
He added that Zoomlion is also repositioning itself to form a stronger partnership with the government and other stakeholders in order to achieve the goal of making Accra the cleanest city in Africa. .
"As part of this agenda, we have launched an initiative to distribute one million bins to metropolitan, municipal and district bademblies (MMDAs) across the country. So far, 100,000 bins are ready for distribution, "said Agyepong.
He further announced that the company would soon inaugurate a new composting plant in Accra after completion of the works to 80%.

In a speech on her behalf, the Minister of Sanitation and Water Resources, Cecilia Abena Dapaah, said the launch of street sweepers was timely and called for the necessary arrangements to ensure the subsistence of the facilities.
This, she said, required transparency in the documentation and partnership agreements between the company and other key stakeholders, as well as the provision of an adequate budget allocation for the organization. vehicle maintenance.

Greater Accra Regional Minister, Mr. Ishmael Ashitey, congratulated Zoomlion for this initiative and said the launch of these vehicles should be a turning point in a campaign for a clean Ghana.
He urged the MMDA to support the company in its efforts to rid the country of dirt.
For his part, the President of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA), Mr. Mohammed Nii Adjei Sowah, said the MMDAs were collaborating to fight waste through the concept of "Assemblies Without Borders", an initiative to holistically manage waste across the country bademblies.
According to him, 35 of Accra's illegal 40 dumps have been cleaned up, while efforts are being made to get rid of the remaining five.
