Companies operating in the light industrial zone of Spintex should not pay taxes or bills to the Krowor Municipal Assembly, as they fall under the jurisdiction of the Tema West Municipal Assembly (TWMA).

Mr. Joseph Buaben Twumasi, member of the Assembly for Baatsonaa constituency, said that even though these companies were in his constituency and belonged to the TWMA, some of them still pay them invoices, tariffs and other fees.

Mr. Twumasi noted that officials of the Krowor Municipal Assembly often surpbaded them by billing them, forcing companies to pay before the TMWA officials contacted them.

He gave his opinion on Tuesday when the TWMA organized a roundtable with the enclave companies of the spintex light industrial zone to discuss development issues in the region.

According to him, while the region traditionally belonged to the inhabitants of Nungua (Krowor), the enclave, on the political level, was part of the jurisdiction of Tema West.

He reminded them that a member of the badembly could only belong to one district badembly. Therefore, if the area fell within the electoral district of Baatsonaa, there was no doubt about its membership in Tema West.

He further reported that Krowor officials had started collecting revenue from the region on the side of the blind officials of the revenue of the Tema Metropolitan Assembly (TMA), of which TWMA had been cut off.

Ms. Adwoa Amoako, Managing Director of Tema West Municipal, stated that her team had organized the meeting to inform the companies that their facilities were within the TWMA administrative zone, in accordance with the legislative instrument (LI 2317) of the Law No. 936 of 2016 on local authorities.
