Peter Tork, bbadist for rock band The Monkees, has died, the Washington Post reported.
Tork's sister confirmed that he had died Thursday at the age of 77.

The Monkees are a creation of NBC executives, chosen for their appearance rather than the quality of their music, especially for the television show broadcast from 1966 and only broadcast for two seasons. He won an Emmy Award for Outstanding Comedy at the time and spawned hit songs such as "Daydream Believer" and "Last Train to Clarksville," the Post reported.
Tork was the eldest, at the age of 24, at the show's premiere. He described his role as "model" of the band, posing as a version of himself that he created when he was a folk musician in Greenwich Village. He played bbad and keyboard for Monkees. He has also sung and performed songs like "Your Auntie Grizelda".
Tork was diagnosed with adenoid cystic carcinoma in 2009, a cancer that affected his tongue, according to the Post.
Tork was born Peter Halsten Thorkelson in Washington, DC, on February 13, 1942, before his family moved to Mansfield, Connecticut, in 1950, the Post reported.
His cause of death, as well as the place where he died, have not been released.
