Professor Mahmood Yakubu in an exclusive interview with Komla Klutse of TV3
Professor Mahmood Yakubu, chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission of Nigeria (INEC), is indifferent to the counter-accusations of the two main political parties that INEC intends to rig elections for a candidate .
After the postponement of the elections scheduled for Saturday, February 16, the leaders of the two main parties, PDP and APC, attributed this postponement to the INEC efforts to tilt the vote.
In an exclusive interview with Komla Klutse of TV3 on Wednesday, February 20, Professor Yakubu denied the statements of the two main parties, saying the INEC did not have to take sides.
"We are badured that the polling stations will open on Saturday 23. What are parties doing in a democracy in relation to the electoral commission?
"The best election is one in which a party is declared the winner. For us it is a responsibility, and we will face these responsibilities, "said Professor Yakubu.
He said that INEC is using it to organize free, fair and credible elections.
"My badurance to the political parties is that we will be fair to all. The commission will be fair; we are not a political party. We do not have a candidate for the election; we will protect the integrity of the process. The election will be free and fair and the votes will count. "
