Samir Handanovic insists that he and his team-mates can still improve despite their convincing victory over Rapid Vienna 4-0 to secure a place in the Europa League round of 32.
The goals of Matias Vecino and Andrea Ranocchia allowed the game to be decided in 20 minutes, while Ivan Perisic and Matteo Politano grabbed misery for Rapid by scoring late.
"Nothing can be taken for granted in modern football," the captain told Sky Sport after the match.
"As soon as you go out with a bad attitude or underestimate the test, you change the game. It sounds simple after the final whistle.
"I think we can still improve. The team is solid, we do not lose as much possession now and that makes everyone better.
"You can see that guys who have not played so much this season have shown themselves ready. We know that we need everyone if we want to go all the way this season. "
Handanovic then announced that he would become the captain of the club.
"The armband is not a title of nobility nor a trophy. It's a great responsibility and an honor to Inter, "he continued.
"We do not need a single person wearing the armband, because we need five or six leaders who push the team forward. It does not matter who wears the armband.
"Nothing has changed for me, I always behave as before. Of course, the behavior of a captain is in the limelight.
"If I need to do it and I hope that is not the case, I will intervene and also do the things that are required of the captain in certain situations."
