Why I have two children – Fashola

The Minister of Energy, Public Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, revealed why he and his wife, Lady Abimbola, had only two children. According to him, he could not have more because their income did not increase.

The minister revealed it Thursday at the second edition of Babatunde Raji Fashola GABFEST in Lagos.

He said, "Do you know why I have two? When I was alone, all my money was mine. When Abimbola decided to marry me, she just brought in a bill. So, in my N10, my part was now N5. We are fifty-fifty. She was making money and I never asked her what she was doing with her money.

"Then Ademola arrived and my share became a third, then Olayinka arrived and I won 25%, then I knew … and I said," Madam, let's stop " .

"She said," I thought you were not going to talk about it, because I thought that way too. " So, we just agreed, not anymore, because the revenues were not increasing, "said Fashola.

Speaking about the need to control Nigeria's growing population, Fashola said, "If your income does not increase, you can not just have children. And it's a conversation, we must have a nation, it's a serious conversation. If we really agree that there is poverty, if we really agree that there is unemployment, then the time has come when we as a people have to come to a consensus and say, "Let's slow down a bit."

He urged Nigerians to have children based on their financial resources in order to take care of themselves.

"If you can manage 20 by any means, if your resources can handle it, go for it; but if your resources can only handle two and you have ten, ha!

"We will leave this question. But we have to confront these things; they have held us back for so long, "said Fashola.
