The Independent National Electoral Commission INEC said that the conclusion of the declaration of the results of the presidential election of 2019 would not take longer than that of 2015, despite the large number of presidential candidates, the size of the sheets of results and the increase of the electoral population.
The commission said it had reconfigured its 180,000 smart card readers 100% before the presidential elections and Saturday's National Assembly.
INEC's president, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, revealed Wednesday in Abuja while informing reporters of the state of readiness of the commission for the polls.
"At yesterday's briefing, we announced that we had completed the configuration of the SCR chip card reader nationally at 95%. Card readers were introduced in the 2015 general election to facilitate the accreditation of voters using PVC. They are set up for specific voting units and can only be used at 8:00 am on polling day. They are automatically closed before 10 pm to prevent any illegal use before the time fixed for the elections. I am happy to announce that we have now completed the configuration at 100%. We are good to go on this score.
"Similarly, I informed you yesterday that our state offices had initiated the process of inviting stakeholders to the Central Bank of Nigeria to review the recovered documents deployed last week and to attend their processing in batches, in accordance with Local Government Areas (LGAs). State reports indicate full compliance.
"I told you yesterday that after moving sensitive documents to the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), the upcoming roll-out to the country's 774 LGAs will begin today, Wednesday, February 20. 2019 and will end tomorrow Thursday, February 21, 2019. Already, Adamawa, The States of Anambra, Benue, Ekiti, Jigawa, Katsina, Osun, Ogun, D & B Oyo and Taraba started the movement of materials to local governments today. Declaration of results
Yakubu said the commission was working to make sure that she would not let Nigerians wait for days without declaring the results, saying the deadline would not exceed that obtained in 2015.
In 2015, while the presidential election was held on a Saturday, the winner was only declared on Wednesday.

The destiny of sealed APC rivers
The president of INEC also said that the fate of the Supreme Court of All Progressive Congress of the US Congress in Rivers State had already been sealed by the Supreme Court, adding that the prosecution had to be stopped.
According to him, the commission would always respect the decisions of the courts, but not when the supreme court of the country will have taken a final decision on the same subject.
"I think that the Supreme Court has taken a number of decisions on this matter and that, for this reason, the commission has taken a position on this judgment. Under our Constitution, the Supreme Court is the final appeal court for anyone and the prosecution must be stopped, as the lawyers say. When the Supreme Court rules, all persons and authorities of the Federal Republic of Nigeria are bound by the decision. The commission, as a law-abiding institution, will abide by the ruling. There is nowhere to go. We are going through judgment. When the Supreme Court has spoken, it is the end of the road for all disputes, "he said.
Regarding the collection rate of PVC, the president of the INEC said the information in this regard would be available from Thursday.
