Former Minister of Youth and Sports, Nii Lante Vanderpuye, said Friday that the NDC hierarchy had gathered information and revealed plans to disrupt the flag elections.

Addressing Starr News ahead of the elections scheduled for Saturday, February 23, Vanderpuye said, "We have gathered information about people wanting to disrupt the party's activities and discredit the process.

"We have therefore put in place internal mechanisms, particularly with regard to security, to ensure that the Ghana Police Service is the only institution that ensures the security of the program."

Vanderpuye's revelation comes one day after the Ghana Police Service issued security guidelines for the elections with severe notice that unauthorized security arrangements would not be maintained.

In a statement dated Thursday, February 21, the Director General of the Department of Public Affairs, David Eklu, also warned unauthorized persons who carried an offensive weapon, that it was a rifle. , knives, machetes or near voting and badembly centers. made to face all the rigors of the law.

The statement again stated that no motorbike, whether registered or not, is allowed near a voting or grading center.

The NDC recently made headlines after a shootout in its Ashanti regional office at a meeting attended by NDC President Samuel Ofosu Ampofo and Secretary General Johnson Asiedu Nketia.

One person lost his life and several others were injured when members of the pro-NDC self-defense group – The Hawks – clashed during the meeting. The command of the Ashanti Regional Police said that 12 people were wanted for this case.

The elections

Seven people, including former President John Mahama, veteran MP and second Deputy Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin and Joshua Alabi, are scrambling to lead the NDC in the 2020 elections.

A survey conducted by the Alliance for Social Equity and Public Accountability (ASEPA) places Mahama at the forefront of its competitors.

According to the latest survey, Mahama is the preferred candidate, after surveying 10,802 people, or 64% of the 12,000 people sampled. Bagbin got 303 votes (1.8%) against 32.3% for Ekow Spio Garbrah.
