Criminals may want to think twice before stealing Tesla.

A man led the police in pursuit of Riverside, California, after stealing a Tesla in a garage. By the time the Tesla was moved out of its parking slot, the owner knew his car was moving and that he was not driving it, according to local information.

The owner of Tesla informed the police, who eventually arrested the suspect.

It was a brilliant moment for the Tesla application. It not only serves as a key, but it also helps track the location of the car, its charge level and control the indoor climate.

In this situation, the Tesla application was able to locate the thief. The owner forwarded this information to the authorities, who found the car and pursued it until the death of Tesla's battery. The owner even warned the police that the battery was low – again, real-time information provided by the application.

"We do not know if speed and reckless driving reduced the battery of the Tesla or if it was not fully charged in flight, but the owner said the battery was dying, which forced the driver to stop the highway, "Riverside police said in a press release.

The suspect was arrested and charged with stealing the car, escaping the police and breaching probation conditions.

Last week, Tesla CEO Elon Musk added a new protection feature called Sentry Mode, an alarm and camera system designed to deter intrusions into broken cars and windows. Owners must turn it on every time before leaving the vehicle.

Nobody should steal cars, of course. But you really do not want to steal a connected car that can track you.
