Twitter co-founder Evan Williams leaves his board, said Friday.

"The past 13 years have been incredible and I am proud of what Twitter has accomplished since serving the company," Williams said in a statement. "I will continue to support the team by focusing my time on other projects."

Williams will leave at the end of the month, according to a document filed with the US Securities and Exchange Commission. When asked to comment, a representative of Twitter pointed out a tweet link to the regulatory filing from Williams.

"I'm very lucky to serve on Twitter's board of directors for 12 years (since there is one)," tweeted Williams on Friday. "It was extremely interesting, educational – and sometimes challenging."

Williams co-founded Twitter in 2006 with Biz Stone and Jack Dorsey. Williams served as CEO of the company after Jack Dorsey resigned in 2008and stayed in the position until 2010. Dorsey returned as CEO in 2015.
