More than 1,000 athletes should participate in this year's race
The second annual Kwahu Easter Mountain (KEMM) marathon has been scheduled for Saturday, April 20th.
The standard 42.2-kilometer marathon, an initiative of the Kwahu Traditional Council (KTC) and Medivent Consult, would begin at Nkawkaw (GOIL gas station) and end at Kwahu's Omanhene Palace in Abene.
A joint statement from the organizers said the marathon was part of the festivities organized for Easter 2019 and was an opportunity to promote tourism in the region.
It also aims to promote healthy lifestyles and to find talent over long distances for Ghana.
According to the release, the 2019 edition would be an improved version of the previous one, as the overall prize package for the winners has been improved, while provisions are in place to ensure the flawless participation of all athletes .
According to the statement, the marathon would offer participants a unique and exciting experience on the famous Kwahu Mountains, through some major cities such as Obomeng, Mpreaso, Nkwatia and Abetifi.
According to the organizers, more than a thousand athletes should participate in this unique marathon, with more than 20,000 GHC prizes at stake for outstanding participants.
According to the press release, details of the contest will be unveiled on Tuesday, February 26 at the official launch at Startimes Ghana Limited's headquarters.
The Kwahu Easter Mountain Marathon was held for the first time in 2018 with Mathew Vikuba Nantiere, of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), winning the inaugural edition.
Nanatiere was sponsored to participate in the 2019 marathon at Access Bank Lagos Bank and ranked 45th out of 60,000 participants.
