Maurizio Sarri says Pep Guardiola is "lucky" to still be Manchester City manager

Maurizio Sarri has described Pep Guardiola as "lucky" to always run Manchester City.

Sarri could be sacked if Chelsea lost the Carabao Cup final on Sunday as he prepared to face defending champions Guardiola, who remain on the road to a four-time history.

But Chelsea boss Sarri said Guardiola was lucky enough to be at work after City's first nightmarish season, when he was among the top four and did not win a trophy.

Sarri insists he needs time to get things right at Stamford Bridge, but he does not understand why the Chelsea season is perceived as a "disaster" when she is neck and neck with Arsenal and only one point behind Manchester United, fourth.

When asked why his work was threatened when Guardiola was given time, Sarri said, "Because he (Guardiola) was lucky. I do not know. You must ask the club. You must ask both Manchester City and Chelsea.

"But I do not know if I'm under the pressure of my club or you. I do not know for the moment.

"I think if you choose Guardiola, you have to wait because the club knows very well that Guardiola needs time. It's not very easy for an English team to play that kind of football, so that's normal.

Guardiola did not win a trophy in his first season at City

"It's important to win the final. Otherwise, you are second. I think it's very important for us because we have to regain confidence. We are in the first final of the season.

"In the end, we are at a point of the top four, the same points as Arsenal and (people say) Arsenal is fine, so we are going a little better because we are in the final, and yet our season is a disaster.

"I do not understand … I want you to remember that this season, this team had won 70 points, not 100". Then, in summer, we changed everything. So there is another problem to solve. So it is not easy.

City beat Chelsea 6-0 in the Premier League earlier this month

Sarri also said he would work on his tactics for just an hour, despite being defeated 6-0 the last time they played against City just two weeks ago. which explains why his work is at stake.

The former boss of Napoli, Sarri, says that he does not want to worry too much his players by focusing too much on what happened at Etihad and that it does not will turn that towards Sunday, the day before the match, at the last training session.

Sarri said: "In this match (at City), for 30 minutes, I saw a very worried team. Without trust. I do not want to press them tomorrow (Saturday). I want their minds to be really free.

Sarri faces more and more calls to the head

"We will only prepare for the match on Saturday, I think. I did not like our mind for the first 30 minutes. I want to see something more free. We will prepare the match in 60 minutes, no more. "

Sarri's own tactical approach – nicknamed Sarri-ball because of his style of possession – has been ridiculed by Chelsea's own fans, but he says results are the only thing that matters.

Sarri added, "I do not know the meaning of Sarri-ball. As I said in England the first day, I do not know what Sarri-ball is. I think it comes from a newspaper, I think. In Italy, I have never heard of it. I do not know.

"I think that in the end, the results are the most important thing. Without results, everything [missed this]. In my job, I need the result. Nothing else. "
