A new application launched today should remove iDevice storage limitations. ZumoCast is a free application that allows users to stream content – videos, music or images – from their computer to their iPad, iPhone or iPod.

I've spent the last few days playing with a copy in advance, and I'm pretty amazed at how much this app is designed. Streaming movies are seamlessly transcoded on the fly in the background, and streaming music is fantastic even on 3G. The set is also incredibly user friendly, works with a minimum of hbadle and does things like automatically import your iTunes playlists. Content can even be downloaded from your computer to your iDevice, and it can also browse, view, and download documents.

And amazingly, it's totally free.

Yesterday I briefly spoke to the company's general manager, David Zhao, who added that additional features, such as the ability to share content with other users, will be added to the Future as options that can be purchased. the application itself will however remain free.

Zhao's company, Zecter, is the same manager of ZumoDrive, a cloud-based service that also broadcasts content on a mobile device; Of course, the difference is that if ZumoDrive stores user media in a cloud, ZumoCast allows users to stream content directly from their own computers.

No complete evaluation at the moment (for example, streaming movies on the Internet – apparently the application is capable – was not attempted), but the full comparison with other applications (such as Air Video) will be Coming soon.
