I have been playing the piano for over ten years now. At this point, the instrument is second nature and the reading process is as follows: sit down, empty my mind of all thoughts and let the song flourish with your fingertips. Looking at Bohemian Rhapsody – Kinematic Biopic of the Queen in 2018 – The performance of Rami Malek as Freddie Mercury caught my attention long after the credits. Because the music was excellent, of course, but also because I could say that this guy could play and play seriously.
Malek spent months learning the instrument and developing his voice to prepare for the role. As he should have done – he embodied one of the greatest musicians of all time, a musician who broke the rock star's image conventions and etched his own infusion of sound, of entertainment and presence on stage. It's safe to say that there never was and there will never have been another Freddie Mercury. But when Malek got into his skin, the result paid off and the world was blown away by his performance. I would go so far as to say that for a movie spell, Mercury had been brought back to life.
Ask everyone who has seen the movie and I bet they will end up talking about Malek. It's not to get rid of the rest of the scene – everything that the best interprets, as well as the production and the sound – but something of the personification of Malek really steals the show. "Do not get me wrong, darling. It's a rock record with the scale of the opera, the pathos of Greek tragedy, the spirit of Shakespeare, the unbridled joy of musical theater, "he says in the film speaking with an exuberant British language, moving brilliantly with flamboyance and maintaining undisputed eye contact with which it is impossible to break in. My only question to look at was simple: is it Mr. Mercury's doppelganger?
The 2019 awards ceremony clearly suggests the same thing: Malek has already won a Golden Globe, a SAG and a Bafta. With a record like this, he is a (very) serious candidate in the category of lead actors at the Oscars of tomorrow. Bohemian Rhapsody was rated in the Best Film category. We can therefore conclude that the musical was a turning point in the career of the American actor. It currently requires nearly 650 million pounds sterling, a musical drama of the most profitable history in history. For the record, this figure is much larger than for A star is born.
Malek is no stranger to the main roles. Before the kickoff of the Mercury Madness, he got an Emmy in 2016 for Mr Robot – The televised thriller centered around a vigilant hacker. Apparitions in Night at the museum, Gilmore Girls and the dusk The saga also hit his hype. But as for Bohemian RhapsodyThis triggered the global awareness of a great actor – a man eager to meet the challenges of playing at Mercury. Although we can not guarantee that he will win an Oscar, Bohemian the buzz certainly gave him a hand. Among his other candidates are Bradley Cooper for A star is born and Christian Bale for a politicized performance like Dick Cheney in Vice. But it's hard to ignore the hype around Queen: the band is ready to perform live at night, accompanied by the accompanying voice of Adam Lambert. Some (OK, many) also speculate that the Bohemian Rhapsody The star will join them on stage for an interpretation. We hope they are right; no one makes Mercury like Malek, after all.
