Former President Jerry John Rawlings
The founder of the largest opposition party, the Democratic National Congress, Jerry John Rawlings, has called on his party to conduct the presidential primary primaries with fairness and transparency.
Rawlings also extended his best wishes to the seven contenders for the election.
"Let's do the presidential primaries today with dignity, transparency and fairness. My best wishes to all candidates, "said the former president in a tweet.
Most delegates of the National Democratic Congress (NEC) began voting in the party's presidential primaries.
About 260,000 delegates are expected to vote in all constituencies in the country, under the control of the Electoral Commission.
The party opted for a decentralized approach to polling stations to save time and ensure efficiency.
The elections
Approximately 280,000 delegates in 275 constituencies, as well as three specially created polling stations, are expected to vote.
Delegates include branch leaders, constituency officials, regional officials, a regional council of elders, MPs, former government-appointed members and founding members, who will have a say in the primary the most innovative party in Ghana.
Seven party members vie for the only time slot to fight the new ruling patriotic party in the 2020 elections.
The people involved are former President John Mahama, Second Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Alban Kingsford Sumani Bagbin, former Minister of Trade and Industry, Mr. Ekwow Spio-Garbrah, l & rsquo; Former Vice Chancellor of the University of Accra (UPSA) and Professor Joshua Alabi.
Mr. Sylvester Mensah, former CEO of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), Mr. Goosie Tanoh, executive, and businessman Alhaji Nurideen Iddrisu.
