J.MAHAMA Former President John Mahama

Campaign team leader John Mahama justified his decision to provide delegates with what was described as incentives.

Daniel Ohene Agyekum rejected suggestions for vote buying, explaining that it only meant encouraging voters to badert their right to vote.

"We want to make sure that those who want to go out and vote are well taken care of. Some people travel long distances to vote, so we have to deal with them.

"If we want them to come, it is natural that you make it easy for them. We offer them a little incentive in terms of transportation, some food and drinks, "he said.

He denied distributing money to voters, but what they did, was to supplement the party's efforts.

Prior to the primaries, some flag bearers expressed concern about the possibility of buying votes, citing the decision of Mr. Mahama's team to provide food and transportation to delegates, a responsibility they believe lies with the party.

But Mr. Ohene Agyekum said they did not care who the delegate would vote for, but only wanted delegates to the polling stations to have no worries.

"We all belong to the same family, so we should have a high participation rate," he said.

In the district of Nhyiaeso, in the Ashanti region, vice-president of this constituency, Richard Prah, a known supporter of Mahama, also rejected concerns about possible fraud.

He added that they only wanted people to vote and not for who they were going to vote for.
