Gary Neville explains why Marcus Rashford replaced Romelu Lukaku

Gary Neville claimed that Marcus Rashford is now the number one striker at Manchester United.

The 21-year-old academy graduate is in the vein of the Red Devils and has practically forged his place as a top pick under the acting boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

This is a stark contrast to life under Jose Mourinho's old regime, where Rashford was struggling to maintain a regular spot in the starting lineup.

However, the form of the English star is so impressive that even striker Romelu Lukaku (90 million pounds) can not enter the team.

And Neville explained the main differences between Rashford and his Belgian teammate.

Marcus Rashford of Manchester United scores against Leicester

"It looks amazing," Neville told Sky Sports via MEN. "If you think of him in the last two years, he has been moved. He played left, right, forward and on the bench.

"If you look at the Cardiff game last season, he does not feel like he's about to go to the front. Now he is aggressive and fast and scores goals.

"Rashford has had to move and he is now number one. United can now attack quickly and it does not matter to Lukaku. United needs some rhythm and he gives them that.

Neville says Rashford is United's number one striker

Rashford's new responsibility lies in United's changing approach. Neville thinks they will be a real threat to Liverpool on Sunday, while remaining vigilant.

He explained: "United is better off attacking these last two months. Liverpool is the best counter-striker, however, so it will be interesting to see who wants to dominate the game and who falls.

"If Liverpool counterattack United, they could score three or four goals. However, if it's the opposite, it could happen too. "

Rashford celebrates after scoring

Rashford was on the scoresheet twice in the same game last season and gave his friend – Liverpool's Trent Alexander-Arnold – a torrid afternoon while United won 2-1.

Speaking of Rashford in the run-up to Sunday's clash, Alexander-Arnold said, "The talent he has is obvious.

"If he's not a world-clbad player now, it's someone who can really reach that level."
