Mr. Stephen Reynolds, Electoral Officer in charge of the presidential primary primaries of the National Democratic Congress in Ashaiman, near Tema, described the security arrangements for the polls as excellent.
A good number of police officers and women controlled the affairs in the voting center, while security barriers had been set up at both ends of the road in front of the complex of the celestial school complex, a number of armed policemen guarding both ends. . The constituency is expecting 2,066 delegates to vote and by 9:12, 159 of them voted.
Two voting centers have been created to accommodate the overwhelming number of delegates who worry about long lines of meandering with some of them seeking to line up. These attempts almost always resulted in anguished demonstrations while those in the queue resisted vehemently.
Mr. Stephen Reynolds told Graphic Online that his team was already in the center at 4:30 am and that "the vote had started at 7 am sharp" and had been going smoothly ever since.
"Our only challenge was the identification of delegates. Because of the arrangements put in place for the vote, some of them arrive and are unable to easily tell what is their electoral region and their position. That means we have to go through the registry to identify them and that is the only thing that causes some delay.
This challenge hindered the rapid progress of the process. Three booths had been installed for each of the two centers. However, only one person was seen voting at a time, while election officials were going through the polls to identify the delegates.
However, Mr Reynolds hoped that the vote would be completed on time.
