The drama series Netflix Russian doll is a big hit with fans and critics. The first season of this eight-episode series features Natasha Lyonne as Nadia Vulvokov, a software engineer and video game designer in New York City, who dies in various ways and relives the night again and again. Whenever she "reborn", the same song is heard.

Nadia dies shortly after leaving her birthday party and finds herself in the bathroom of her friend's apartment where the party is held – again and again. She begins an investigation to determine why she continues to die and what she discovers leads her on very strange paths. No spoilers here, but let's just say it's not your typical case marmot day or Edge of tomorrow kind of plot.
What song is played when Nadia's timeline is reset?
Whenever she "starts again," Nadia looks in the bathroom mirror of her friend Maxine's apartment during her birthday party. The same song is played each time, although it is not something the character recognizes, but only for the audience. The song in question is Harry Nilsson's "Gotta Get Up", taken from his 1971 album Nilsson Schmilsson.

After the end of the full season on February 1, "Gotta Get Up" recorded a significant increase in the number of streaming broadcasts. According to Billboard, the number of times the song has been aired increased by 2,466% in the week following the release of the series.
It's quite likely that viewers simply could not have the song in mind after watching Season 1 of Russian doll. The song was played in almost every episode, usually several times, depending on the number of Nadia's deaths in this episode.
Why Natasha Lyonne chose this song
Getting the rights to play a song in a movie or television series can be very expensive, and "Gotta Get Up" is no exception. There would have been restrictions on the number of times the song was allowed to play, and a large part of the series' budget was spent on securing the rights of Nilsson's estate (the singer died in 1994) .
Although other potential songs were considered, Lyonne wanted "Gotta Get Up" to be presented for a number of reasons, including the influence of Nilsson's life on his music. "There was always some sort of unpleasant ending," Lyonne told the New York Times, "which permeated the surface of his songs, even the most optimistic and certainly the darkest." There is a clear message about growing up and coping with the dark realities, which is certainly a theme of Russian doll.
Will there be a season 2 of Russian doll?
The Netflix series has received a lot of praise, so it's not surprising that people are already demanding more. Sure Late at night with seth meyerLyonne spoke about it, saying that because of his experience in Orange is the new black, she is used to the attitude of Netflix viewers "I like it, give me more!"
Fortunately, creators Lyonne, Amy Poehler and Leslye Headland have planned more seasons – two in fact. Lyonne told the Hollywood Reporter: "We really presented this idea as a three-season idea, and yet it's so interesting to think about how it's coming and changing over time since its inception. Who knows if we will have the chance to go back down to the rabbit hole? That's the question of tomorrow. But I think we have ideas. Maybe this time there will be a new worm to revitalize.
