Double McLean keeps Norwich on top of five-goal thriller

Norwich has once again demonstrated its fierce determination – they have come back several times this season – trailing 1-0 then 2-1 against their opponents in form.

However, Scottish international McLean, 27, tied the game at 1-1 and sealed the three points with a fabulous long-range strike to end the city's seven-game winning streak.

Norwich, who wants to enter the Premier League after a three-year hiatus, has a two-point advantage over Leeds United, who defeated the Bolton Wanderers 2-1.

Sheffield United could be second, unlike in goals, if they beat fourth-place West Bromwich Albion on Saturday, although Leeds has a game to play on both sides.

Leeds defeated Bolton goalkeeper Remi Matthews in the second half, allowing Macedonian star Ezgjan Alioski's center to go straight into the second half.

Bolton – troubled by financial problems, is second after the last four points behind the safety – lost his sense of direction after that, as his manager, Phil Parkinson, was ruled out by the referee.

For Leeds fans of a certain age, it was a memorable moment as it was the first time they had beaten the same club seven times since the victory against Arsenal eight times between 1973 and 1976.

Elsewhere, Stoke City paid tribute to his legendary former goalkeeper, Gordon Banks, winner of the 1966 World Cup, who died earlier this month at the age of 81.

There was a mosaic of fans and a minute of silence in his honor – he spent six seasons with Stoke winning the 1972 League Cup.

In addition, Stoke goalie Jack Butland wore special equipment.

They were unable to finish with a win, getting a 1-1 draw with Aston Villa.
