The State Security Department (DSS) refuted reports that former Colonel Sambo Dasuki, a former National Security Adviser (NSA), reportedly died in his detention center.

The news of Dasuki's death had flooded various social media platforms on election day in Nigeria.

Peter Afunanya, DSS spokesperson, said the NSA in the past is not only alive but in good mental and physical health.

He described the news of Dasuki's disappearance as false, insensitive and insistent, in these terms: "There is no truth or credibility about the alleged death of Colonel Sambo Dasuki.

"We are confident that the old NSA is in very good health and is not dead. This is why the general public must be incredulous and condemn the atrocious online story that Dasuki died in the custody of the DSS. "

Afunanya cautioned individuals and groups who enjoy disseminating unauthenticated, unverified, and malicious information in order to achieve their devilish purpose of inciting the public against DSS to give up their insensitive attitude.

He also warned the public to be wary of mischievous stories and false information that could provoke violent reactions from the public and threaten the peace and stability of the country.

For their part, the family of the former NSA detained expressed his rude shock at the news of his death.

A family source who told PRNigeria his confidence, said Dasuki, whom they met Friday, is very friendly and warm, adding that they were surprised when some people called to sympathize with them after his death.

The family member said, "As of last night, he was healthy and warm during his visit. So it's strange for us when we started receiving rumors about his death, some people even sending us messages of condolence.

"We do not know the motive of the peddlers and false promoters of news, especially at this time."
