Crystal Palace's 4-1 victory over Leicester City helped Roy Hodgson win the day he became the oldest manager in the Premier League.
Roy Hodgson said he did not expect to become the oldest manager in the Premier League when he returned to English football in 2007.
At 71 years and 198 days, Hodgson broke Bobby Robson's record as Crystal Palace beat Leicester City 4-1 on Saturday.
After building an impressive resume abroad – except for a brief period with Blackburn Rovers in 1997-98 – Hodgson returned to England 12 years ago with Fulham.
He then headed Liverpool, West Brom and England before agreeing to join Palace in September 2017 – the club he supported in his childhood.
"It's quite strange that I'm planning to do something else when I return to England in 2007 and these last 11 [12] Years have been a highlight of my career, "he told BBC Sport.
"The important thing for me now is that I am physically caring for myself. I do not allow myself to give up and stay in the form you need to do this job. "
Saturday's win at King Power Stadium gave the Eagles a six-point lead over the relegation zone, and Hodgson is confident his team will not be in trouble again.

"As far as we are concerned, we know that there are still 11 games to play," he told the post-match press conference.
"We're on the right track with two very tough games against Man United and Burnley, but this win will give us a lot of heart and more, all the points you can not win. You're coming if you like that magic number of 40 that we all keep in mind.
"With the 11 games we have and the players we have to use to get the points, I have to be confident that we will do it.
"If we are able to win a team like Leicester and if we are able to win at Manchester City, if we are able to do it, then I have to believe in this team and have to believe that somewhere on the line, those points of which we need will come. "
Two goals from Wilfried Zaha, a penalty from Luka Milivojevic and the first for Michy Batshuayi since his Chelsea loan secured the victory against Leicester.
Zaha and Batshuayi particularly impressed Hodgson, the leader having already explained why Palace wanted to add him to their team.
"He looks very alive," added the 71-year-old. "We think he's doing what we would like him to do and shows all the signs we expected of him as a scorer.
"His performance today was really good in every respect. Not only offensively, it was a good defensive performance as we blocked a lot of pbades to the center of the field. It dropped in depth and made it difficult for them. "
