There are two days late, but better late than never. GreenPois0n the jailbreak for iOS devices running iOS 4.1 is here. Unfortunately, the first version only concerns Windows and Linux, but the developers of the hack, Chronic-Dev, expect to release a version for Mac OS X soon.

The jailbreak is compatible with the iPhone 4, the iPhone 3GS, the third and fourth generation iPod touch and the iPad. Although it does not currently support the second generation of Apple TV, a future update will solve this problem.

The release of GreenPois0n follows the surprise publication of Limera1n by Geohot last weekend. Subsequently, Geohot and Chronic-Dev met. GreenPois0n uses the same exploit as Limera1n. This cooperation allowed Chronic-Dev's SHAtter to exploit a future jailbreaking tool.

As far as I'm concerned, cooperation between hackers can continue. I appreciate what they do for people who want to get out of Apple's walled garden and hope that they will continue to work together on future iOS hacking tools. You can download a copy of GreenPois0n for Windows or Linux by visiting www.greenpois0n.com.
