Lionel Messi earns almost double the salary of the great rival Cristiano Ronaldo, according to the annual salary report of L'Equipe.
The French publication brought together the numbers to reveal the top 10 highest paid footballers in the world, with Messi at the top of the ranking.
The star of Barcelona gains about 7.3 million pounds before taxes, 3.2 million more than Ronaldo after his summer move to Juventus.
Messi signed a new contract at Camp Nou in November 2017, which allowed him to surpbad Ronaldo on the payroll.
Among the top 10 identified by L'Equipe, five players work in the Liga while only two represent the Premier League.
Alexis Sanchez is one of those, his contract with Manchester United allowing him to be among the best players in the world, despite his disappointing performance in the field.
Two other stars on the list are playing in France, including Neymar, ranked as a surprise by fourth place in the salary rankings.
