IIf I had the right to access the Oscars tonight, I start by finding Richard E. Grant. He's my new favorite, and after spending two months looking at him enthusiastically to make his way through the rewards season, I guess he'd probably be the most fun he could get out of – or Olivia Colman. Both actors have hit the red carpet in recent weeks, each practically slipping into the ceremonies at which they were nominated and, in some cases, receiving prestigious awards. Their joy is contagious. You can not help but smile by watching Colman screaming at his "sluts" during his acceptance speech at the Golden Globes or when Grant publishes a video about him in which he shouts an "ecstatic haaa" in the street after learning that he has Oscar. They are both as enthusiastic as normal people would probably be and honestly, their attitude was the best thing about the 2019 awards season.

Please, Richard, do not suppress your joy. After more than three decades of appearing on our screens and becoming a pillar of British film and television – a career that began with its brilliant debut in Withnail and me – why should he? Nominated for Best Supporting Actress for her role in Can you ever forgive me?It is amazing to think that this is the first time that his work has been recognized by critics responsible for the awards, but as it is, he should continue to make gains every second. Watching him have fun while taking selfies in front of Barbara Streisand's house is much more comforting than seeing all her counterparts pretend to be cool with severe poses on the red carpet.
And then there is Olivia Colman. Unlike Grant, she has accumulated many awards throughout her career, with four Baftas and two Golden Globes in her name. This year, she was hailed for her role in The favourite included. But did that dampen the pleasure of being publicly declared to be one of the best in the world? Absolutely not. Although his lack of social media means that we have less access to Gold's Twitter content such as Grant's, his smiles on the red carpet and his acceptance speeches clearly showed that Colman was still very enthusiastic. "We're going to be so pissed off later," she told the audience at the Golden Globes, a moment that had such an impact that it was mentioned in a skit Saturday Night Live Last weekend. "I'm sorry, I'm a little upset right now," Cecily Strong said in her imitation. "I'm celebrating my two Golden Globes and none of you know who I am, so I can do or say what I want. Oh, I'm going to pee!
Those on the other side of the pond can make fun of Colman's vertiginous relatability, but for my part, I salute it. Of course, she will get drunk; she is nominated for an Oscar. And although Grant is on the table, I hope that he will do at least a crazy evening of captivating selfies tonight to celebrate his exploits (fingers crossed between Streisand-Grant and our Twitter feeds tomorrow morning ). These are two actors who have been working in the industry for decades and are currently surfing the wave of being at the top of their game. Why should we expect them to play coldly and pretend to wait stoically for their victory? to the DiCaprio is beyond me.
In a society that constantly strives to look great on Instagram, the authenticity of Grant and Colman has earned the awards season a breath of fresh air. They reminded us that it was normal to be enthusiastic about success and to celebrate it accordingly, even if it meant sacrificing your coolness to the world. And would it really be a sacrifice in the first place? If the roller coaster of its rewards season has proven itself, it's because everyone loves grateful and recognizable winners. Maybe we all need to pull a page out of their book and allow ourselves to be pissed off when good things happen. The world could use more the joy of Grant and Colman, so let's celebrate.
