Ghana defender Daniel Amartey will work under a new manager in Leicester City after the club sacked French coach Claude Puel.

The 57-year-old was fired Sunday after City was beaten 4-1 at home against Crystal Palace on Saturday in what turned out to be Puel's last match after 16 months of command.

Puel leaves the club 12th in the Premier League after losing five of his last six league games.

Under the coach, Amartey has blossomed to become the team's first player before the injury, leaving him on the sidelines for three months now.

With the Frenchman leaving the club, Amartey will have to redouble his efforts to win the confidence of the new Foxes coach.

The Frenchman led Leicester to ninth place in the Premier League in his first season, but the club is now looking for his fourth permanent coach in 23 months.

Saturday's loss means Leicester lost four consecutive Premier League home games for the first time since January 2000 and conceded the first goal in 19 Premier League matches this season – more than any other team.

Deputy director Jacky Bonnevay will also leave the club. The first team coaches, Mike Stowell and Adam Sadler, are called on to temporarily take the reins of the team.

Puel was named for a three-year contract in October 2017, succeeding Craig Shakespeare, who in turn succeeded Claudio Ranieri, director of the 2015-2016 Premier League, in managing the club.

The former Lyon boss was dismissed by Southampton in June 2017 and had arrived in Leicester four months later with the club in third place in the league.

He led them to ninth place, their second place in the top 10 in the Premier League since 2000.
