Brave women have been hailed by Pakistanis everywhere, including the head of UNICEF.

Pakistan is one of the few countries that has not yet completely eradicated polio. Millions of people are injected into the vaccination campaign. In recent times, the unsung heroes of the campaign have been hailed by the international community for their determination and dedication.

Earlier this year, the Prime Minister of Pakistan Imran Khan hailed the workers' efforts who dragged themselves in the snow to the waist to administer the police vaccines to the children.

Khan met the workers who were videotaped while preparing for the weather and trekking vaccines to help eradicate the debilitating disease.

Now, images of polio workers – trailing in the snow up to the hips – have become viral on social media after UNICEF Pakistan tweeted them this weekend.

First tweeted by "Polio Pak Fights", the footage shows a polio employee performing her duty during heavy snowfall in the remote Astor region in Gilgit-Baltistan. , to protect children from the virus.

In an article in the Washington Post, Pakistan is one of three countries in the world where polio is still endemic. The other two are Afghanistan and Nigeria.

The recent polio campaign targets 39.2 million children under the age of five across the country, with the exception of some areas severely affected by the winter rains. The campaign will also try to include children crossing the Afghan-Pakistan border. In 2018, Pakistan reported only eight new cases of polio.
