The government unveiled the activities of the celebration of the 62nd anniversary of independence, scheduled for March 6, 2019.

Deputy Minister of Information Pius Enam Hadzi told reporters Sunday, February 24, 2019 that many activities had been organized for the celebration.

According to him, the guest of honor this year will be the president of Niger, Mahamadou Issoufou.

He added that the activities will begin on February 28 and end on March 8, 2019 and that the main celebration of March 6 will be held at Aliu Mahama Stadium in Tamale.

This will be the first time that the celebration will take place outside the Greater Accra region.

The government is optimistic that moving the celebration to Tamale will do a lot of good for northerners, he said.

The theme of this year's celebration, he said, is "Celebrating Peace and Unity".

According to him, the theme consolidates Ghana's achievements in the promotion of peace, especially in the resolution of the protracted Dagbon conflict.

He revealed that a committee had been formed to lead the organization of the celebration and that Jefferson Sackey, communicator to the presidency, was part of it.

He added that there would be 30 contingents for the celebration, including the Ghana Police Service, the army.

On February 28, there will be an event in the Christianborg shooting.

On the same day, there will be a birthday conference, he added.

He said that there will also be a Muslim prayer in the course of activities.

On Saturday, March 2, 2019, a health march will celebrate peace and unity throughout the country.

On the same Saturday, the year of return will begin.

On Sunday, March 3, 2019, there will be a Christian prayer throughout the country and there will also be the traditional show "What Do You Know" broadcast on GBC.

On Tuesday, March 5, 2019, there will be a reenactment of the celebration of independence on the polo field.

He said that on March 6, the Independence Day parade will begin at 8:00 am at Aliu Mahama stadium.

Since independence, Ghana is organizing the celebration in Accra. Mr. Sackey says it becomes boring. They therefore evaluate the possibility of organizing it every year throughout the country.
