Empire Star Terrence Howard broke his silence just days after the arrest of TV son Jussie Smollett for allegedly staging the hate attack last month.
Howard initially posted a video on Instagram on Saturday night with Smollett with a baby. The message was subtitled: "All your little friends got you … We love the hell out of you ♥ ️."
After one commentator blamed him for supporting a "liar criminal," Howard responded with a long comment for Smollett's defense.
"The Jussie I know could never even conceive of something so unconscious and ugly," he said. "His innocence or judgment does not belong to us. Stay in your hallway and my hallway is empathy, love and compbadion for someone I have called my son for five years. It is up to God to judge and love and hope, especially for those we claim to have loved. There is nothing more harmful than a true friend!
Smollett co-star Gabourey Sidibe had already expressed her support throughout her legal troubles. In an Instagram post that has been removed since the day before Smollett's arrest, Sidibe wrote, "I know him, I believe him, I support him."
As TVLine has already reported, Empire the producers plan to use a new actor to take over the role of Jamal Lyon in season 6, if the show was renewed. Fox had previously chosen to suspend Smollett, who will miss the last two episodes of Season 5.
Smollett, who plays Jamal on the Fox drama since his debut, was arrested Thursday in Chicago and faces a criminal charge of disorderly conduct / filing of a false police report in connection with his attack presumed.
