Discrimination against women bothers me: Amitabh Bachchan

Megastar Amitabh Bachchan said Sunday that he was pained that women are being discriminated against in society, a cause for which he will continue to fight. Bachchan, Goodwill Ambbadador of the World Health Organization, said women should be treated with respect and dignity.

"Discrimination against women has been very worrying for me. This should not happen. Women are half the power of the country, they are the strength of the country. We must give them the respect and dignity that everyone deserves, "said Bachchan.

"To be discriminated against in this way simply because they are carriers of the hepatitis B virus is not acceptable. I will fight for it as long as I'm alive, "he added.

Bachchan said that this discrimination is "wrong" and was shocked to know how things are going for women suffering from the disease.

"I have heard such horrific stories where married women were kicked out of their homes because they were suffering from hepatitis B.

"I thought that if my voice and my face could help raise awareness, I'd be happy to do it. If I can be the living example for the citizens of the country who, despite being a patient with hepatitis B, I live normally, "he added.
