Butterball recalls 78,000 pounds of ground turkey

Butterball and the Ministry of Agriculture's Food Inspection and Safety Service announced a recall of 78,164 pounds of raw ground turkey that may be contaminated with salmonella.

Products include several Butterball brand ground turkey packages, as well as white label branded brands for Kroger and Food Lion. They have been sold nationwide.

The authorities investigated salmonella cases in five patients in two states, which led them to the land turkey. People infected with salmonella can expect symptoms such as diarrhea, abdominal cramps and fever within 12 to 72 hours. The disease can last four to seven days, but most patients recover without medical treatment.

All potentially contaminated ground turkey was produced on July 7, 2018 and bears the EST plant number. P-7345 "inside the inspection mark of the USDA.

• 16 ounces. Tray packed in plastic containing "fresh turkey every day BUTTERBALL WITH NATURAL FLAVOR (85% LEAN / 15% FAT)" with date of sale or freezing of 26/06/18, lot code 8188 and UPC code 22655-71546 represented on the label.
• 16 ounces. plastic wrapped tray containing "Fresh turkey daily BUTTERBALL WITH NATURAL FLAVORS (93% LEAN / 7% FAT)" with date of sale or freezing of 26/07/18, lot code 8188 and UPC codes 22655-71547 or 22655 -71561 represented on the label

The ground turkey booster comes after salmonella fears led to a mbadive beef recall in 2018, with 6.5 million pounds in October and 5.1 million pounds in December. And in November, Duncan Hines recalled 4 cake mixes on salmonella contamination.
