Addressing the members of the Commission after presenting their report to the Jubilee House on Thursday, President Akufo-Addo expressed his enthusiasm for the fact that the work of the Commission was finally over.

"The conclusions and recommendations that have been formulated will, of course, receive as much attention as possible from the members of my government," he said, adding that "the government has the responsibility to maintain the law and order in the country and this responsibility can not in any case be abdicated.

According to him, the Commission's findings and recommendations "can help us to advance law and order in this country. "I congratulate myself and this will be the subject of careful study. I do not know if the circumstances of this Commission will require the publication of a white paper from us, but we will examine all these issues and we will respond appropriately, "he said.

Before presenting his report, Judge Emile Short, Chairman of the Commission, said: "All the necessary reasons have been covered by the Commission and the Government will find the conclusions and recommendations useful for defining important reforms for the future. to come up".

He thanked the President for creating the commission to investigate the cause of the violence that characterized the by-election during which the mistress of the late MP Ayawaso West Wuogon Lydia Alhbadan was elected to represent the constituency.

Members of the Commission were sworn in on February 8 by Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia. Investigating the violence during the by-election, the Commission opened its public hearings at Christiansborg Castle, Osu, Accra, on 14 February.

The Commission was composed of Judge Emile Short, President, Henrietta Mensah Bonsu, Judicial Summary and Jurist, and Patrick K. Acheampong, former Inspector General of Police. Mr. Ernest Kofi Abotsi, former Dean of GIMPA Law School and Private Lawyer, served as Secretary to the Commission.

The mandate of the Commission according to the statement announcing its formation was as follows: to conduct a thorough, faithful and impartial investigation into the circumstances and facts at the origin of the events and related violence that occurred during the By-election of Ayawaso West Wuogon, January 31, 2019; identify anyone responsible or involved in the events, violence and related injuries; investigate any matter that the Board considers to be accidental or reasonably related to the causes of the events, violence and related trauma; and submit its report to the President within one month, indicating the reasons for its conclusions and recommendations, including appropriate sanctions, if any.
