Gareth Bale's agent, Jonathan Barnett, explained how difficult it was to reach an agreement with Tottenham Hotspur President Daniel Levy.
Barnett was a guest of the BBC Euro Leagues Football Show on Thursday and explained in detail the famous negotiations in which Bale became the most successful football player in the world six years ago.
Bale left Spurs in 2013 for Madrid under a contract worth 87 million pounds. Barnett explained that the process as a whole was "exhausting" at times.
But Barnett insists that Levy is the ultimate professional who will always keep his word – if you can make an agreement with the "hard" negotiator.
"It's pretty fun to look back, but it was breathtaking at the time. They (Levy and Real's president, Florentino Perez) were both extreme extremes and I was in the middle, "Barnett told BBC Radio 5 Live.
"At the end of the day, I must say that Daniel Levy has kept his word. We had long conversations and he said, "If we come to a certain point, I'll let him go (Bale)."
"Gareth is well behaved. He never asked for a transfer and he never asked to leave. He just took as he was told to do it and it worked.
Barnett went further into the details of the negotiation with Levy, who, according to Bale's agent, "behaves properly".
"I've negotiated a lot with Daniel Levy and he's tough. But he has one thing, he's telling the truth. When you shake his hand, the deal is done, "added Barnett.
"I prefer to deal with someone with whom you fight but with great respect. If we reach an agreement, I know that after that it will be blocked.
"He behaves properly. There are many presidents with whom it is easy to deal with, then you just signed and the agreement is different from what we negotiated. "
