Paul Merson thanks fans for their support as he fights against alcohol

The former England and Arsenal midfielder, Paul Merson, thanked the supporters for their support after acknowledging that his gambling addiction had left him in the "loneliest of places".

Merson, a television expert for Sky Sports, revealed he was struggling again with reliance on the upcoming documentary from the IT television channel, Harry's Heroes: The Full English.

In a tearful interview about the series, he explained what he was feeling because of his addiction.

On Thursday, he admitted that he had returned to Alcoholics Anonymous while fighting his alcoholic demons.

He told the Daily Star, "I'm back in AA and my life is better, if I drink a drink, I bet."
