UEFA has ordered Manchester United to dispute the first leg of its Champions League quarter-final against Barcelona, although it is expected to play outside before.
United was determined to face the Catalan giants at camp Nou before playing the return match at home.
But Manchester City have also been knocked out at home in Tottenham in their last eight games.
The regulations prohibit United and City from playing at home the same night or consecutive nights. One of them must therefore move.
As City finishes higher in the Premier League than their home rivals last season, United will play their home away from home.

The match at Camp Nou will mark the return to the stadium for United's boss, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who has no doubt scored the most famous goal in the history of the Red Devils on the same pitch in 1999.
Solskjaer scored close against Bayern Munich to complete a historic treble.

And the shock of City against the Spurs means that there will be at least one English representative in the last four.
Liverpool has, on paper, perhaps the best chance of progression after being paired with Porto.
In the other quarter-finals, Ajax's award for eliminating Real Madrid is a clash against the winners of Atletico, Juventus.
