NEWSROOM (ADV) – President Muhammadu Buhari yesterday unveiled the report of the survey on Indicators and the Impact of HIV / AIDS in Nigeria (NAIIS), indicating that the end of the disease was in sight in the country.
At the NAIIS unveiling at the Abuja Presidential Villa, he said the availability of accurate and reliable HIV data in the country was crucial for planning effective health interventions to halt the HIV epidemic and rid the country of this threat to health.
"The Nigeria AIDS Indicator and Impact Survey has been designed to provide the data we need to properly plan and consolidate progress towards eliminating HIV in Nigeria.
"In Nigeria, the official HIV prevalence among people aged 15 to 49 is now 1.4%. There are an estimated 1.9 million Nigerians living with HIV and about one million people on treatment.
