Yesterday's unboxing YouTube video from James May was a complex backdrop in the latest episode of The Grand Tour, with views approaching a million.
After announcing the release of a new derivative series on Amazon without the co-hosts, Jeremy Clarkson and Richard Hammond, May's solo release into the realm of YouTube has returned to the fore after a recent sketch of the Grand Tour.
In the last episode, the trio asked how to sell three hatchbacks to the younger generation – using the power of slogans, stickers and social media.
May has decided to take advantage of the popularity of YouTube videos for unboxing to promote her Toyota Yaris GRMN, racing the car in its entirety and watching it live.
This YouTube video was released in the wild last November on the DriveTribe channel, without specifying why.
Grand Tour fans are now revisiting the video with additional context, realizing that they have been fooled from the beginning.
More: James May
A comment on the video is: "Who is here since the big tour after watching this video a few months ago thinking" wait a minute bloody … ""
Another said, "It makes a lot more sense after the third round of the third round."
Incredibly, May also won the contest on the episode. May we call May a successful "YouTube star" now?
The Grand Tour continues on Fridays on Amazon Prime Video.
