Con Edison faces fine for violating security rules

(Reuters) – Consolidated Edison Energy Inc. could be fined for failing to comply with safety rules for gas infrastructure works in New York, a local regulator said Friday.

After receiving allegations in an anonymous letter of 2016 that utility companies had misled the operator qualification reviews, the New York State Public Service Commission (PSC) stated that She had ordered the gas companies to investigate about it.

Con Edison found evidence of fraud on two contractors, the PSC said, and violations of the construction-to-work requirements made by the contractors.

"The investigation revealed that the company had not inspected the work performed by its contractors during construction and at sufficient intervals to ensure compliance, and that it had allowed the work to proceed with the merger. plastics and plastic fusion inspectors who were not qualified to do so, "the regulator added.

A spokesman for Con Edison said the company was reviewing the order and would provide an appropriate response.

"Several years ago, we became aware, and then reported to the PSC, of ​​suspicions of cheating alleged by contractors during examinations administered by an external party. Subsequent inspections of the company have highlighted problems related to the work done by these contractors, "said spokesman Allan Drury.

Con Edison was ordered to respond to the regulator within 45 days.
