Brendan Rodgers Appoints Leicester Player That He Attempted To Sign For Liverpool

Brendan Rodgers is thrilled to finally work with England star Ben Chilwell after unsuccessfully trying to sign for Liverpool.

Rodgers supports Leicester for the third time today in Burnley Premier League.

Rear-left Chilwell, who has five international caps, has already made a big impression on Fox's new boss.

His form also allowed the Manchester City champions to consider a huge summer bid for the defender.

Rodgers admitted, "I'm right at the door and I can see he's a huge talent. I tried to take him to Liverpool when I was there – so I know how good he is.

"He was not even in the first team at that time. But we were looking for a left-back and he was at the top of the list.

"We did not reach the 'almost there' because Leicester was obviously going to protect their badets.

"The club wanted to keep him here because he was a boy recognized at the time as a talent.

"He's a great young player and he still has a lot to learn in his game.

"He really likes to be here, we'll see, but we must not lose."

Rodgers used Chilwell as back winger in his first game against Leicester, who lost 2-1 to Watford.

Rodgers then went to the back for Fulham's visit last weekend, while his team lost 3-1.

The Leicester stars have not always been willing to change systems after losing confidence in Claudio Ranieri just months after winning the title when the Italian began tinkering with his favorite 4-4-2 formation.

But Rodgers thinks he can make his team more flexible and adaptable by explaining his changes and training the team on the training ground.

He added, "I just think that for the players, it's really education, that I let them understand why and that they will embrace it more.

"You can not just give it to a player. A player needs two things: purpose and clarity.

"If I ask a player," Are you clear in your work? "And they tell me," I'm pretty clear, "so they're not clear and they have to be really clear.

"Then they go on the field and can play. They are a great group and want to learn what is important. "
