Manchester United midfielder James Garner has signed a new long-term contract with the club by at least 2022.

The 18-year-old made his Premier League debut at Crystal Palace last month and was part of the first team for the Champions League's recent win against Paris Saint-Germain.

The agreement will allow Garner, who has been through the university, to stay at Old Trafford until June 2022, with the possibility of extending it for another year.

In the club since the age of eight, the British Junior International has recently been compared to Michael Carrick, captain turned coach.

"I think he's fortunate to have a great future," said United United's acting director Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

"He knows we believe in him, we have great confidence in him as the next Michael Carrick.

"I know he's young and I know it's not fair for kids to compare himself to big players like Michael, but he's got the same mold, he's playing simple pbades, playing to across the lines. "
