Kwame Asare Obeng, an anti-corruption activist better known as A-Plus, attributed the Cedi's depreciation to the collapse of local banks.

He said the Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Ernest Kwamina Yedu Addison, lacked the wisdom and common sense to deal with the banking crisis.

A-Plus said that the governor's interest resided only in the collapse of local banks and was now considering the same principle for savings and credit companies.
