Penny originally called Katie and it seems that the bosses did not turn to the character or Cuoco in the role.

Can fans imagine The Big Bang Theory without any of their favorite characters and actresses?

Cuoco sees the initial rejection as something positive now that episodes and years have pbaded.

She recently admitted, "I did not get [the role of Katie] the first time. I was too young, what I like to say because I can not say that I am too young.

"Then, a year later, I heard that they were starting over and they brought me back to read for Penny."

How the course of history could have been so different for one of the favorite comic sitcoms of the United States.

The actress has been playing the role for twelve years and her character has become an integral part of the show, as evidenced by her relationship with Leonard Hofstadter (played by Johnny Galecki).

Not only was the actor rejected, but the character was initially abandoned and did not even call Penny.

Peter Roth, president of Warner Bros and content manager, told TV Insider: "In the first pilot, the character of Penny [originally named Katie] was not as attractive as the proverbial girl next door.

"This was not the actress [Amanda Walsh] but rather the vanity of the character. Fortunately, Nina Tbadler, then President of CBS Entertainment, realized that we had something very special and said, "Let's do it again."

Fans can thank her for introducing one of their favorite characters and discovering potential where others did not.

Along with Penny, the series has produced such highly regarded characters as Leonard, Sheldon Cooper, Howard Wolowitz and Rajesh Koothrappali.

Cuoco has now joined his co-stars in expressing his sadness after CBS announced that the final of the one-hour series would be May 16.

She posted on her Instagram account: "I'm not crying, you're crying," with a screenshot of the release date.

Leonard's star, Johnny Galecki, also tweeted his sadness: "273 episodes were filmed. There are 26 days remaining on the Big Bang stage. Six episodes to film. 66 days before the end of one hour.

"All very surreal. A lot [heart emoji] to all the fans. "

Amy Farrah Fowler's star, Mayim Bialik, also added, "All things must end, even good things. I have to accept what is, instead of lamenting what was and fearing what comes next. "

The fear of the unknown is something that fans can identify because they are faced with the prospect of living without their favorite television series of 12 years.

The show is one of the most popular American comedies since its release in 2007 and has become the longest multi-camera series in the history of television.

Fans are in the overdrive since the announcement of the series finale and speculate on the fate of their favorite characters at the end of the series.

The Big Bang Theory airs Thursdays on CBS and in the UK on E4.
