Health officials say that there are at least 46 mumps cases at Temple University and three others in surrounding counties, the largest number of cases in the city since 2010.

This represents 16 cases reported last week.

The Philadelphia Department of Public Health said Friday that it recommended anyone with fever, headaches, jaw pain or fatigue to consult with their doctor or campus doctor.

Spokesperson James Garrow said the effectiveness of mumps vaccination tends to worsen over time and so it is not necessarily about unvaccinated people.
