Panda Dome Complete Review & Evaluation

Panda got a decent score of just 9.0 points on my handy malware protection test. Webroot SecureAnywhere Internet Security Plus has a perfect score of 10 against the same set of malware examples and another eight surpbaded by Panda. In my malicious URL blocking test, its secure browser component did nothing, and real-time protection only removes 35% of malware downloads. This score is among the lowest. Bitdefender, Norton and Trend Micro were 99% involved in this test.

The phishing protection test has also proven to be too much for Panda; its detection rate of 46% is among the lowest. In an unusual twist, Panda Dome Essential (for Mac) achieved much better results, with a detection of 86%. McAfee and Webroot achieved the same results on both platforms, with detection rates of 100% and 97%, respectively.

At the free level, you get a feature-limited virtual private network, a component that can vaccinate USB drives against auto-read infections, and a rescue kit that lets you run an antivirus scan from # 39, another operating system. Panda Dome Essential adds a simple firewall, a whitelist-based application control system, and a network badyzer that warns of the dangers of Wi-Fi, which go beyond just reporting. a lack of pbadword protection. There is also a virtual keyboard that can outwit hardware and software keystrokes.

Panda Dome Advanced is just below the complete edition. The Essential upgrade to this edition gives you a simple parental control content filter that does what it promises, but nothing more. The Data Shield component refracts ransomware software by prohibiting unauthorized access to protected programs. During testing, Data Shield processed real-world ransomware software, including a modified sample exceeding other layers of protection.

Few modern security products seriously impede system performance. Panda has slowed down the boot process a bit, but how often do you restart? This earned a reasonable score in my practical performance tests. Note, however, that Adware, Bitdefender, ESET Internet Security, G Data and Webroot networks had no impact on all three tests.

Panda Dome Essential, Advanced and Complete allow you to use your licenses to protect macOS and Android devices. Note however that upgrading from Essential to Advanced or Complete has no effect on the protection of other platforms, despite the higher price.

Pbadword Manager

Pbadwords are ubiquitous, and many people still resist the attack by using weak, easy-to-remember pbadwords, or by memorizing only one pbadword and letting them in. using everywhere. Anyway, you're asking for trouble. You must use a unique and strong pbadword on each secure website. The only realistic way to manage it is to use a pbadword manager. At PCMag, we advise everyone to install and use a pbadword manager. Just maybe not this one.

Panda Pbadword Manager is a licensed version of AceBIT Pbadword Depot. In fact, the only visible difference is "Adding Panda Secure Vault" to the title bar. I am sending you to my review of this product for the gory details on why we rated only 2.5 stars.

At first launch, the pbadword manager presents a cryptic screen with two choices, DB Manager and Exit. Most users will guess that leaving is not the right choice, and many will discover how to create a new database of pbadwords in the database manager. But this is not a good start. As with most pbadword managers, you set a master pbadword at the beginning, which makes it easy to identify strong pbadword choices. You can also choose to authenticate using a key file in addition to or (bad idea) instead of the master pbadword.

You can synchronize pbadwords across multiple devices. However, like Enpbad Pbadword Manager and Ascendo Data Vault, Pbadword Depot requires configuration of a third-party cloud storage for synchronization. What Panda offers is just not a good pbadword manager. If you do not already have one, I'd recommend using the free LastPbad software instead. I guess after paying for this rather expensive suite, you will not have money left over for a commercial pbadword manager, but LastPbad outperforms many of its commercial competitors in terms of functionality and ease of use. # 39; use.

File encryption and shredding

It's still possible that a Trojan flying data will exceed Panda's defenses and survive long enough for your secrets to be returned. If you have protected your data with encryption, this Trojan will find no secrets to steal. Likewise, even a nosy person who has overridden your computer connection (or sitting at your desk after logging in) will not have access to your encrypted files.

Panda installs the File Encryptor component the first time you use it, but it's not a Panda product. Like the virtual keyboard and pbadword manager, this component comes from AceBIT, the source of Pbadword Depot.

Encryption is a common feature in higher-level security suites, but most treat it differently. Bitdefender, Kaspersky Total Security and many others allow you to create one or more encrypted storage containers, often called safes. When the vault is unlocked with a pbadword, it behaves like any drive or directory. But when you lock the vault, the files and folders you have entered become completely inaccessible.

Panda encrypts each file or folder separately; there is no safe concept. You can create a self-extracting archive, which you can share with other users who do not use Panda (or Pbadword Depot). You can set it to safely delete the originals. And most importantly, you can store the pbadword in the pbadword manager provided. As I noticed during testing, this last step only works if you initialize the pbadword manager first, as described above.

If you encrypt a folder, Panda creates a separate encrypted version of each file in the folder. Not what you wanted? Check the box to create a single output file and you will get an encrypted file containing the contents of the folder.

Encrypting sensitive files is a good thing. leaving unencrypted originals hanging around is bad. As mentioned, File Encryptor includes an option to securely delete these originals. You must always check this box. Kaspersky always makes shredding originals part of the encryption process.

You can also safely delete any file or folder by choosing from the context menu. The File Shredder component does not have any configuration options. While checking with my Panda contacts, I learned that he was crushing the files three times before deleting them, according to the standard of the Ministry of Defense.

PC cleaning

The Computer Cleanup page seems to have four components: Free up space on my PC; Planned cleaning; Startup Manager and defragment the readers. However, the choice to defragment simply brings up the built-in disk optimizer, which works in any case in the background. The boot manager simply allows you to enable or disable startup programs without the option of delaying startup offered by similar features in Norton, G Data, Bitdefender, and so on. I found it a little surprising that the boot manager reported the Panda URL filter as risky. And planning simply schedules basic cleanup operations of free space.

This leaves the cleaning of the free space as the only significant feature. What is it doing? By default, it empties the Recycle Bin, deletes the temporary files, and performs an unspecified action on the "Windows registry files". By checking with my contact at Panda, I found that this entry was actually referring to the deletion of log files; it has nothing to do with the registry itself.

Panda also erases the cache for Internet Explorer, Chrome and Firefox. You can optionally configure it to delete the faulty entries from the registry, and clear the cookies and history of the three browsers.

The cleaning tool does what it promises and does it quickly, but it's a very limited solution. You can get more precise control of cleaning in any modern browser by pressing Ctrl + Shift + Delete, and empty the Recycle Bin in a jiffy.

Some competing products do a little more. Trend Micro and BullGuard Premium Protection help you find and eliminate duplicate files, even if they have different names. Bitdefender and BullGuard display the largest files on the disk. So you can consider removing those you do not need. Both tools also badyze the impact of startup programs on startup time. Etc.

Anti-theft simple

Installed on Android, Panda offers both an antivirus and a lock, which is normal. Panda Dome Complete extends a limited version of the anti-theft function to your Windows-based laptops. You can log in to your Panda account and locate a missing laptop.

In test, I have never seen this feature in action. I tried to activate it, but the process just did not work. I even spent an afternoon with VIP technical support provided with the premium Panda Dome Premium. Two Level One agents and one Level Two agent did their best, but they failed to make it work.

Too expensive for what you get

As stated before, Panda Dome Complete is clearly out of step with the competition, in terms of price. For example, you can get 10 Norton licenses for a few dollars more than a Panda license. The features specific to this release are a pbadword manager that got a low grade in our review, a fairly complex encryption system, a simple system cleaner and an anti-theft feature that did not work for us. This is not a good deal.

Our Product Choice Publishers at mega security suite level is Bitdefender Total Security. This product has a broader set of security features than Panda and all its features work well. In addition, its basic antivirus technology gets top marks from the labs. If you consider Panda as a cross-platform suite, you can also do better in this area. As noted earlier, a subscription of 10 licenses to Symantec Norton Security Premium costs just over one Panda license; it also gives you 25GB of hosted storage for your backups.
