Meghan, who announced her pregnancy in October, is expected to give birth this spring. On Monday, the Duchess attended the Commonwealth service at Westminster Abbey. It should be his last public engagement before the royal birth.

Russell Myers, editor at The Mirror, explained why Meghan was likely to give birth in a private facility.

He said, "It depends largely on planning.

"Naturally, there is a lot of interest in the media, and because of the logistics, it is really necessary to use a proven method of private service or a specific hospital, which is used to dealing with this type of high-profile birth.

"What's needed, it's a controlled environment, both inside and outside the hospital for all involved."

A number of potential sites for birth have been suggested.

Meghan and Harry could opt for the Lindo Private Wing attached to St Mary's Hospital in Paddington.

The three children of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were born in this establishment.

Princess Diana also used the Lindo wing when she gave birth to Princes William and Harry.

Mr. Myers said, "If Meghan and Harry choose to give birth at the Lindo wing, the logistics and processes involved are so much simpler than there is a default plan.

"Of course, some people suggest that this would send a real message to Meghan to have her baby in an NHS hospital, but honestly, I think it would cause more disruption to other members of the public if she did it. "

It has also been reported that Meghan is planning a birth at home.

Mr. Myers said: "This is always a possibility, as it is understood that Meghan is studying mech techniques and could opt for the comfort of his home, rather than spending a moment on the steps to the outside of the Lindo wing, as did with his three children. "
