A former Ghana Airways pilot, Michael Yaw Foli, suggested that air travel is even safer than traveling by road.
He said that air travel was "the safest mode of transportation," adding that "the percentage of accidents is very small compared to a traffic accident".
The experienced pilot, who has spent 40 years in the profession before retiring, said the routine maintenance protocols that precede each air travel reduce the risk of an aircraft crash.

Mr. Foli was talking about two plane accidents in the last five months, which killed all pbadengers.
Last Sunday, March 10, 2019, an Ethiopian Airline crashed a few minutes after takeoff, killing the 149 pbadengers and eight crew members aboard Sunday.
A spokesman for Ethiopian Airlines said that 32 Kenyans and 17 Ethiopians had died in this accident.
It was also later confirmed that there were 31 other nationalities among the people aboard the new Boeing 737-8 MAX aircraft that crashed.
According to the authorities, the victims include 18 Canadians; eight from China, the United States and Italy; seven each from France and Great Britain; six from Egypt; five from the Netherlands and four from India and Slovakia.
This has caused great concern among travelers, especially those traveling by plane.
Meanwhile, the Chinese government has ordered that its fleet of Boeing Co. 737 Max 8 be immobilized.

However, Mr. Foli said that "the possibility of an aviation accident is rare", compared to the road.
In an interview with Myjoyonline.com, he explained that the process of recruiting pilots is very rigorous and ensures that only people invested in discipline and science are allowed to fly planes.
