Crytek: Video: Raytracing Reflections with Cryengine on AMD and nVidia GPUs

Crytek has released a technical demonstration video from the perspective of the Game Developers Conference 2019 (March 18 to March 22, 2019), presenting real-time hardware-based and API-independent ray tracing reflections.

The technological demo "Black Neon" (see video) was developed on the basis of a special version of Cryengine 5.5. The experimental ray throwing function relies on total engine lighting technology and is independent of the API and hardware. Crytek promises to launch rays on "most mainstream AMD and nVidia graphics processors". The description of the video shows that the technical demonstration took place in real time on an AMD Vega 56 graphics processor. The ray tracing function will be implemented in the engine during the year. Until then, the technology of the latest generation of graphics cards and APIs such as Vulkan and DX12 should be optimized.

The "Neon Noir" demo shows the reflections and refractions of real-time ray tracing in a futuristic city. "The neon lights are reflected in the puddles below, the flashing street lights are reflected on the wet surfaces and the windows reflect exactly the scene in front of them," writes Crytek.
